I like that there are and have been so many attempts at making a new textboard, the problem is that they're almost always invariably dead.
I agree with 2-san. The imageboard, let along the textboard scene is sad in English and Polish speaking world. There are almost no new users anymore besides kids who go to 4chan because they saw a youtube video from 2013 talking about the l33t hax0rs. Not sure what I'm going to do when pre 2010 internet completely dies.
As long as new (new only in creation date, really) textboards and imageboards keep trying to bring back the past they will remain dead. Nobody brings anything new to the table, they're all "4chan but [more strict/less strict/like the good old days]".
Everyone tries to be the next 4chan too, sometimes without realizing it, like when they start adding mandatory basic ass boards, i.e. anime, games, random. BBS places that try to fill a specific niche tend to fare better, like Lainchan, Wizardchan or Bunkerchan. Until someone in the administration team inevitably fucks up, that is.
I think its hard to describe in just one way. Sure, they are dead, but they are still pretty fun. I think that, like all things, a age of renewal will come soon. I think the age at which old things start becoming cool instead of "lame" again is about 30 years old, like how right now 80s-90s era is liked alot, in another 10 years, it will be 90s-00's, and so on. Just wait, and experience a revival.
On the other hand, you could also learn japanese. Then you get to experience a whole new world this way.
I think people focus too much on trying to raise users instead of enjoying the group they have!
I just wrote a textboard script and I want to host it because I think its neat and I'm proud of it, but I don't want to mess with the already sparse but fragmented textboard ecosystem. The hubris to even try and start a new board..... like there needs to be another lounge or aa board. Fuck it, I'll make my board about bomberman...
Most Japanese people don't even use textboards anymore the Japanese internet now is mostly LINE Twitter and Facebook

thats like saying most westerners dont use 4chan. it may be true, but there still are a huge amount of being using them, even if its not most.
Would you guys post in bomberchan?
whos bomberban? is it a ted kaczynski forum?
They don't lol or at least the average normal person.

thats my fucking point retard. the argument that "the majority of people in x country dont use this site" can be true while the site can still be huge. making it moot

That's a step in the right direction. We need more anonymous forums with oddly specific topics.
I bet you think most Japanese people still use Nico Nico too despite the fact that most Nico Nico users moved to YouTube because Nico Nico is not profitable.
IMO you have to be fucked up in some way to use sites like these because no normal person uses these kind of websites. In its early years 4chans userbase was mostly society's social rejects and a bunch of anime nerds but now it is used by people who are still like that but more semi-normal.
But we're talking about 2ch, not niconico or 4chan. 2ch since the early 2000s has been filled with "normalfags", for lack of a better word.
If you're talking about the original 2ch now called 5ch that place is still semi-active but not that popular anymore if you mean 2ch.sc that place is pretty much dead from what I've seen.
Duh. 2ch.sc has never been relevant except for the first few months after Hiroyuki deservedly got the boot. Too bad JIM was just as bad as him if not worse.
Oh god i hate Jim he is a faggot not only did he ruin 2ch but he also ruined 8chan too but to be fair Hotwheels betrayed us so.... yeah there is that and he became a SJW.
You don't? I wasn't talking about the internet in general i was talking about imageboards and textboards and nowhere did i mention hackers on steroids. That being said however back in the day you needed to have at least a basic understanding of how computers worked in order to access the internet however once touchscreen smartphones started becoming more common place the internet and real life became merged together and now even a idiot who didn't know how to use a pc had access to the internet.
You needed to know how computers worked to access the internet? I didn't know you needed to know how an ALU adds numbers or the intricacies of the mathematical theory behind algorithms to use dial-up internet!
lets not let our discussions overshadow rule 8
